Robotech

What to watch after Battlestar Galactica? I decided to watch the first episode or two of other space series and see what stuck.

I gave the original Galactica a shot, but couldn't stick with it. Next I tried Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that didn't grab me, either. Star Trek: Deep Space 9? Nope. Star Trek Enterprise was not bad. I'll give that one another shot.

Surprisingly, the one that I'm really getting into is the old anime Robotech. It's a little cheesy like those old Japanese cartoons can be, but it's definitely scratching my itch for epic space combat.

Any other suggestions?

  1. I loved watching ST:NG with my parents as a kid. Not only was it the only time I'd get to stay up late, it was also neat to have the whole family enjoy something together.

Obviously you've seen Firefly. Have you tried The Lost Room? It's not space related at all, but it's hardcore sci-fi in a very oldschool way. There is a room, and anything that goes into it disappears when the door is closed. There artifacts in the room that give the holder special powers. Madness ensues. Only one short season, unfortunately, but it's really awesome.

    1. Maybe if I had watched The Next Generation as a kid it wouldn't be so cheesy now. I guess it's different seeing it for the first time now.

Lost Room is really good, too. I wish it was longer, but then again, I'm glad it had a good plot arc with an ending without dragging on for years.
